Group Asks Imo Assembly to Impeach Okorocha for Abuse of Office


With the alleged bribery scandal rocking the Imo State Government, which has led to the impeachment moves against the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Jude Agbaso, a group noted for its activism for good governance, Save Imo, has petitioned the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly to immediately commence impeachment moves against the state Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, for abuse of office.

A three-page petition accompanied with a sworn affidavit of facts sworn to at the High Court Registry, Owerri and signed by the coordinator of the group, Mr. Ebubeagu Godwin Ekenulo, urged the assembly

Imo govt. to cancel scholarships of indecently dressed students, says Okorocha

Owerri, March 1, 2013 (NAN) Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Friday said he would withdraw the scholarship from any student of Imo origin in tertiary institutions reported by the school authority to be indecently dressed.

The governor gave the warning in Owerri while addressing members of the newly appointed Government Liaison Officers.

Racketeering is simply organized crime. Official racketeering is therefore a criminal abuse of office.
Imo is bedeviled with very high unemployment and underemployment rate, simply because Imo remains basically a rural state with no industrial sector. Consequently, on the average, over 90% of tertiary institution graduates in the State never return back to the State to reside after their National Youth Service. This is mostly responsible for the vanishing Igbo Language because these 90% eventually reside and try to irk out a living in the industrial Southwest and North central. Eventually meaning that they marry and raise their children in these geographical areas of the nation not Igbo speaking.
