Hassan Umar, the 36-year-old man who is currently journeying from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on foot to celebrate the victory of General Muhammadu Buhari in the last presidential election has arrived Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Umar kicked started his journey after Suleiman Hassim had trekked from Lagos to Abuja to celebrate Buhari’s victory at the poll.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, Umar told said he started the journey in Lagos on Friday and arrived Ilorin on Monday night.
He noted that his decision was not to derive any material gain, but to celebrate with the Peoples General for winning the presidential election after fours attempts.
Umar, who has been living in Lagos for over 15 years, told reporters that he was working with a construction firm, Shelter Care Company since 2015.
He said he voted at the same polling unit where vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo cast his ballot in Lagos.
He called on Nigerian youths to remain resolute in reshaping the affairs of the country.
His words, “What prompted me to embark on this journey is to challenge the youth of this country to see this as tourism. One of my happiest moments is that the incoming president (Buhari) is actually for the masses. I think by now, it would be more good for this country to do things better.
“When you desire to do something, it is good to do it. I’m very happy for him (Buhari). He made us proud as youths. This new government, we hope, will empower the youths of Nigeria for us to know our way to be in democracy. So that is more happiness that we have. It is not only me that is doing this journey, others had done that.
“Others have their mission. For me, my own mission is that I want to do something very hard for people to ask me why I have done that. And I know that by May 29, everybody must have ended it. Even if we did not gain anything at the end of the day, what we know is that we have achieved something with this trek”. Now in Kwara, Umar still have not less than 1,193.5 km to cover. dailypost
