Breaking: Two Nigerian Soldiers Killed In Rivers
With less than 48 hours to the re run elections in Rivers State, the security of the state has come under test as the Nigerian Army says it has lost two of its men from an ambush by unknown men in Abonemma, Akukutoru Local Government Area of Rivers State, channelstv reports.
The victims, one officer and one soldier, were among the troops on patrol in Abonemma before a fierce encounter ensued between them and the gunmen.
The Army authorities say they are in pursuit of the criminals and will surely get them.
The Army has also advised all law abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities, while it continues to make necessary sacrifices to ensure sustainable peace, security of lives and property of all.
The Nigeria Police had earlier announced the deployment of 6,000 personnel to Rivers State ahead of the re-run election.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, told newsmen in Abuja that the deployment became necessary because of the already tensed security situation in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is conducting a re-run election in three senatorial districts, 12 federal constituencies and 22 state constituencies on Saturday, March 19, in compliance with the appeal tribunal which nullified the earlier polls.
