Court grants Ohakim bail

Court

Adeniyi Ademola, a judge of the federal high court in Abuja, has granted bail to Ikedi Ohakim, former governor of Imo state, in the three count charge of money laundering against him, reports thecable.

Ademola had earlier ordered Ohakim to be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) till Thursday when the application for his bail would be heard.

In his ruling on Thursday, the judge granted him bail in the sum of N270 million and ordered the EFCC to submit Ohakim’s travel documents to the court.

The anti-graft agency arraigned him in court for making a cash payment to the tune of $2,290,000.00 (about N270,000,000.00), for the purchase of a property at 1098 Cadastral zone A04, Asokoro district, otherwise known as 60, Kwame Nkrumah street, Asokoro, Abuja.

He is also said to have failed to disclose all his assets in the declaration submitted to the commission.

Ohakim was governor of the state between 2007 and 2011.

The EFCC arrested him and Murtala Nyako, former governor of Adamawa state and Abdulaziz, Nyako’s eldest son, on Tuesday.
