“Am doing just fine getting along without u, don’t need u anymore in ma life. u d greatest mistake av made in recent time.”
The fears that many marriages involving Nollywood actors and actresses run into troubled waters within a short time have again become the subject of discussions in many places. Many are still wondering if failed marriages have not become part and parcel of Nollywood. Events in the last two days point in the direction that the marriage contracted between Funke “Jenifa” Akindele and Kehinde “Almaroof” Oloyede on May 28, 2012 has the rocks. Many were shocked to read a post on Funke’s husband’s Facebook wall early on Monday that read “it is with heavy heart that I am announcing the separation of me and ma wife, Mrs Olufunke Akindele. we’ve both agreed to go our separate ways coz of irreconcilable differences. we still best of friends nd we 4ever remain good friends.” Though the post has been deleted, it became a news item within a matter of minutes.
While many tried unsuccessfully to reach either of the two partners involved, Oloyede added another post which read “Am doing just fine getting along without u, don’t need u anymore in ma life. u d greatest mistake av made in recent time.”
The separation has since been confirmed by Funke’s publicist who disclosed that the couple have had some issues in the past and that the actress had planned to make it a quiet affair before it became a Facebook matter.
Funke’s case brings to mind the many divorces and separations in Nigeria’s movie industry. About three months ago, Solomon Akiyesi’s wife stormed the venue as the actor was about to be joined to another woman. It became an ugly scene, the type that would fetch a movie producer cool money. Years ago also, Segun Arinze and his actress wife, Anne decided to part ways. Same for Saidi and Fathia Balogun whose separation made headlines. Kate Henshaw, Doris Simeon, Ayo Adesanya, Shan George, Eucharia Anunobi, Sandra Achums and Monalisa Chinda are some of the actresses that have had to endure the pains of separation. Even Foluke Daramola did before she found love again recently. thestreetjournal
