200 road contracts : You are a liar, Agbaso tells Okorocha…Says Governor and Speaker awarded every contract

The deposed Deputy Governor of Imo state, Sir. Jude Agbaso has described as utter falsehood, comments credited to Governor Rochas Okorocha purporting that 200 road contracts were handed over to him to award to his people in Owerri zone. crimefacts reports.

According to Agbaso, the governor averred that he empowered him with 200 road contracts to use and empower his people.

Briefing newsmen yesterday in Owerri, the former Deputy Governor explained that all the road contracts in the state were awarded by the Governor Rochas Okorocha himself and the Speaker of the State Assembly, Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu, while he merely appended his signature to the approved contracts in his capacity as the Commissioner for Works.

He explained further that road contracts are not designed to be distributed to friends and cronies for patronage, but demands particular expertise and competence from whoever would execute them.

On the claims bv the governor that he paid Agbaso N50m monthly for nearly two years as security vote, the former deputy governor again dismissed it as misleading, pointing out that the N50m statutory imprest to his office was paid for only nine months from July 2011 to November 2012.

He clarified that the said imprest was used to pay his aides, security personnel attached to his office, and day to day running of his office. He also noted that from the same fund, Okorocha mandated him to renovate the Deputy Governor’s lodge.

He recalled that Okorocha who had promised to re-pay him the sum of N80m being expenses he made from personal fund on behalf of the state government, till date, has not paid him a dime.

On whether he would be ready to serve in the Imo state government again if the court nullifies his impeachment, Agbaso who is diligently pursuing his suit in court against his impeachment, said he would offer his services without reservation, pointing out that the government in question is the Imo state government and not Rochas Okorocha government. source crimefacts
