Students of tertiary institutions in Imo State have rejected the free education being offered them by the state government, and asked for the payment of their bursary instead of claiming to be offering them free education which according to them is not feasible.
The students operating under the umbrella of National Association of Imo State Students (NAISS) took the decision of the rejection, at their expanded executive meeting weekend, in a communiqué signed by the National President of NAISS, Comrade Madunezim Lugard; National Vice President, Comrade Progress Nwachukwu;
National Secretary, Comrade Nwanze Caleb; Senate President, Comrade Uzoma Celestine, among others.

According to the students, the free education is not feasible.
NAISS urged government to return to the days of Chief Sam Mbakwe when students in the state enjoined bursary.
The students passed a vote of no confidence on the office of the Director General Students Affairs of the state government, calling for a bureau for Imo Students.
They demanded the state scholarship board to give an account of how it has been handling students' affairs.
NAISS also condemned the uniformity of uniforms for primary and secondary pupils and students of primary and Secondary Schools in the state.
The students maintained that the development is unacceptable and asked government to allow the various uniforms for schools in the state.
They said they will henceforth avoid all political activities in the state until the 'political leaders prove otherwise'.
The state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha had announced that the state will pay N100,000 to each student in the state owned university per session for the student's tuition fee.
Governor Okorocha said students of National Diploma (ND) in the state owned polytechnics will get N60,000, while those of the Higher national Diploma will receive N80,000 each.
The governor recently launched the tertiary free education programme in Owerri, the state capital where cheques were presented to three persons representing the three zones of the state.
The rest of the students were asked to go their tradition rulers in their various communities to receive their cheques the following Monday.
The students who went to their traditional rulers said the monarch were yet to receive the cheques from state government. Nigeria Newspoint - IMO STUDENTS REJECT FREE EDUCATION
