Imo PDP delegate poll: Uzodinma, Udenwa, others on collision course

Ex-Gov. Achike Udenwa

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other stateholders from Orlu zone in Imo State, led by former governor of the state, Chief Achike Udenwa are now on collision course following the commencement of the process to recall the senator representing the zone, Chief Hope Uzodinma, for allegedly manipulating the party’s delegate election. Sunnews reports.

This was just as they passed a vote of no confidence in the state Chairman of the party, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie and threatened to commence a legal action against the national leadership of the party if their request to harmonize the delegate list before the commencement of the party primaries was not heeded.

The party chieftains, who met at the country home of Udenwa, unanimously called for the recall of Senator Uzodinma representing Imo West at the National Assembly, who they alleged, frustrated the harmonization of the ward delegate list in the state.

In their resolution, read by Nze Ignatius Umunna, former secretary to the state government, the aggrieved PDP members also passed a vote of no confidence in the state Chairman of the party, Chief Anyaehie, for his alleged collusion with Uzodinma in hijacking the delegate using the structure of the party.

It was also agreed that the PDP women in the 12 local government areas of the senatorial zone would storm the national headquarters of the party to protest the adoption of any delegate list without discussing with the party leaders.

In a swift reaction, Prince Marshall Anyanwu, a chieftain of PDP in the zone, dismissed the allegation of manipulation levelled against Uzodinma, stating that those involved were Udenwa’s loyalists. He said other stakeholders and leaders of the party from the zone were satisfied with the conduct of the delegate congress election in the zone. Via - sunnewsonline
