Breaking News! Ex-Governor Ohakim survives kidnap attempt in Imo State.

Ikedi Ohakim
The immediate past governor of Imo state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim today survived an abduction attempt by armed hoodlums believed to be kidnappers.

Report by Crimefacts informed that the ex-governor was attacked in his Burma Retreat country home in Okohia, Isiala Mbano.

According to the source, Ohakim had gone round to the back of his house for some reasons, but unknown to him, some suspected kidnappers had laid siege for him behind his home.

Report said that Ohakim had been walking at a distance from his security aide and on sighting Ohakim, the assailants broke cover and made a direct dash for him, grabbing at the ex-governor and tearing his shirt. Just as the governor was breaking free from the hoodlums, his security aides rushed into the fray shooting.

According to another source, while some security men secured and took the governor to safety, others engaged the hoodlums in a shoot-out.

At the end of the exchange, three gunmen were arrested and taken to the Imo state Police headquarters, Owerri.

Our sources noted that some details of the incident are still sketchy as the former governor may be keeping the incident under wrap until he gets to the bottom of the attack, as he had vowed to.

Contacted, the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, Joy Elemoko, as usual urged our reporter to give her till Sunday for confirmation.

Police sources at the State Police Command promptly confirmed the incident when contacted.
